Voices Of The World

Voices Of The World

Here is Annas idea:

As far as 2009 is the Year of Astronomy I would like to suggest for this month task an activity concerning this..

We may create a video the way we like and be creative using various ‘objects, materials’ presenting and saying the 9 planets mixed up with our kids favorite music –or creating our own!- beginning from the closer to the Sun planet..

( since 2006.. the planets are 8 + 1 dwarf planet)

We are free to choose the way we have to make our video and where to upload it.

We are looking forward to seeing your ideas for this month task.. or to let us know if you like the above

warm greetings from Kaparelli

Dear Anna, as I said; great idea for April task!

After this task we can call us Voices of the Universe;-))

If we go for this task (we'll discuss till the end of March - and 1st. of April I'll put the final instructions for the task at the Ning), I have some thaughts:

About the sayings; I prefer that we all say the same. Therefore I suggest that we all start with the the title, after introducing our school and location, as usual:

Our solar system (in your language, of course) and then name the planets (8+1) in the right order (as you said) from the planet closest to the sun; Mercury, Venus, Tellus (Earth), Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto

About music, we have to be aware of that singing should not "disturb" the sayings of the words. Maybe we could manage to find some background music (some "star-likely-music"), then we all would have the same sound?

Is it possible that we could agree of some more sayings to every planet, e.g the "special thing" about each and all of them;
The Earth - the blue planet, Mars - the red planet, Venus - the brightest planet and so on...maybe this will contain to much information for us to deal with??

What's your opinion about the April task?

Best regards, EvaR

Hi everyone..

Eva .. about the music.. I suggest to be a free choise soundtrack for each partner ..words will be common for all ...but music I think it would be an 'element' of surprise to our pupils to be different ..

about adding info for each planet.. I think it will confuse pupils while they try to listen how 'earth' is called in other languages...so I suggest to be just the 9 names..

but let's hear what the ideas of the rest people here ...

Hi everyone! I must say that we really enjoyed February´s task, especially yours, Anna. The children spontainuously repeated the months in Greek. And we do it everyday since they like it so much. we will try to keep the intermissions long enough for you to be able to repeat the countries in Swedish... Göteborgish, that should be a challenge for you! :-)

I can go with planets, we enjoy the painting just as much as the recording. A song about space as well? We love to sing!!! Ithink it could be any song at the end of the saying, As we did with the months. I have a feeling that the saying will be similar for all planets but earth. Latin?

Spring has come to southern sweden. Ten degrees, sun, snowdrops and crocuses are on the move. Wonderful! we are happy with so little...

It's just wonderful when this happens dear Karin.. my pupils last year spontaneusly started singing the unkown song until that moment 'twinkle twinkle' ...they played and sang..they painted and sang... just great! to see it..

I love Scandinavian Spring... -I have been in DN many times- and what I love more is that Nature changes are so slow upthere and your eyes can enjoy every tiny daily change..
Here one day is a blossom after 2 days a real flower!

Hi! March task was fun as well. making flags is so much fun for the kids. As you know, they are only seven so the idea of the world is quite big for them. And being children of this generation they take a lot for granted. But some times we can feel the walls of the classroom disappear and we are part of something great. We too have a map of the world where we put pins for all the participants.

Especially Georgia was fun to say. Crazy word they thought! :-) We do not have Swedish words for all the states, only the ones most "famous" for us Swedes.
When I told them that next part is space they got ideas right away. I like to let them paint together, and to let them decide for them selves how to show their part.

Have a nice Easter all of you /Karin

Hi everyone..
I guess most of you are on your easter holidays... Greek Easter will be next week.. a period with a mixture of feelings .. today we were informed about the Greek dead student at L' Aquila's earthquake :-(
we are deap sorry about him and about all the rest dead Italians ..
Kaparelli has been half destroyed 29 years ago -my first year here like a teacher- and still remember the horrible feelings and all the concequences from this.
I wish I could do something ..

We're hoping to finish up April's task today but may end up without a song since we only have 30 minutes; I still have to put the whole thing together and upload it somewhere which I will probably get to tomorrow or on the weekend if that's okay. Has there been any information on May's task? I feel like I'm always behind.

Also, I think any Teacher Tube videos on the wiki may not be working correctly. TeacherTube changed their embed code and from what I can tell the old embed code doesn't work anymore.

Hi, Vicky!
I hope you managed to put your April task together - don't worry about the song!
About the May task; until now five of us (Anna, Kairi, Karin, Sharon and me) have discussed what to do as the last task this school year. Sharon will try to participate this month too;-))
As it looks like now, it is going to be a song - a 2 years birthday song for VOTW (picture of cake) - and then in the end "a sweet goodbye" . Probably we'll use MyPlick again - to make it easier for all of us.
Instructions will come asap (just need to be confirmed by Anna, Kairi, Karin and Sharon)

I believe Kairi will take a look at the wiki (embed codes TeacherTube)

Best regards, EvaR

I had one absent child so I need to record their voice and get their picture finished on Monday. It's ready to go other than that though so I'll send the code late Monday or early Tuesday.

...speaking about teacher's youtube.. my experiance is this: I have an account but I never managed to upload a video!!! I have tried 4-5 times and after a while (5-10min) 'it denies ' to complete the procedure !!!??? ... So..I gave up with this site and use the 'normal tube'.... but I am curious to know WHY this happens..

I too haven't been able to partake in a while and was wondering if VOTW was going to continue into the 2009-2010 school year.
