Why do Voices Of The World Again in 2008-2009? Why be a member of the VOTW community? Is it to just be an observer and take or is it to be a participant? What do you want to get from this project? What do you want children to take from VOTW?
sorry to hear you will not be part but the demands of life can take us other places. Yes stay an observer and feel free to contribute to any discussions or make connections as that is what this area is for.
We joined late last year and we plan on participating fully this year. To get children from all across the globe linked into each other through voices and visuals is truly the beautiful side of the internet! To see the look on my students' faces as they listen to what other children in another state or country have to say/sing and then to dash off to find "where they are" on GoogleEarth, a map, or a globe... sigh... I want my students to truly connect to other people & other cultures and (living in northwestern Montana, USA), online is undoubtedly the way that's going to happen.
Personally I love learning about new technology that I've not played with yet OR learn new ways to do things with apps that I've just scratched the surface of. It's great for my kids to see me reading/rereading Sharon's instructions (okay, maybe the dramatic flair is a bit over the top sometimes as I slowly and loudly reread and underline certain parts -- but you've gotta use those teachable moments!) as I work through text in the same ways that they need to.
So, please keep me/us active and the new format will steer us all in a direction full of learning, collaboration, and true democracy! Thanks, Sharon for all your hard work organizing and maintaining this wonderful project!
I don't remember where I read it but collective intelligence is greater than individual intelligence. You certainly deserve some help. You did I great job last year and I learned a lot and made new friends. Now it's time to give back. Count me in.
Hi Sharon,
Thanks again for setting up this wonderful opportunity. My students last year loved it, and I loved the ideas as well. I am still singing "Days of the Week" in my dreams... :-) We are in the process of doing out voki...some recording difficulties with new hardware. Hopefully should be straightened out in a week or so. Looking forward to further and deeper collaboration.

I think this is an amazing project because it connects children through sound (not just through text like much of the internet).
I am our site technology support person, and I want to be involved because I support the work of one of our school's elementary teachers. I do my best to help her problem solve and plan for the technology tasks. I also love to see the products put out by the project.
Our students live in a very isolated area near the Bering Sea. This project really allows them to "see", experience and imagine other children around the world.
I found this project last year and followed along on the Wiki. This year I set the theme of the computer lab to be "It's a Small World" and decided to have each class do some kind of global collaborative project. Voices of the World was one I definitely wanted one of my classes involved in. I think hearing the voices connects the students in a way that just the written word or even pictures can't.
I thank you for all your work on this Sharon and look forward to all the fun to come. My students are very excited to see the 2008/2009 wiki since we've explored last year's wiki to see what the project was about.
Sharon, do you have my code? I notice you're using the larger version this year. I think you used the smaller one last year? Do you want me to sent the code again?
